A Course of Action

The Arts & Sciences contest at Lionsdale Champions (June 1st) will be all about your process and movement. Normally an A&S entry is your final piece, but for this contest we want to see your process.

Do you do period combat? Show us how.
Do you make shoes? How?
Dance?
Hand sewing?
Weaving?
Carving?
Brewing?
Cooking?
Metal Work?

Whatever you do, come out and show us. You’ll give the judges some verbal documentation/explanation of what you do and when it’s from, then a demonstration, and then field a few questions.

There will be two prizes given out at the end of the competition.

What’s that you say? You’re shy? Bring a friend and enter together.

This year’s competition format will be one entry, of any medium that is inspired by, represents, or embodies the theme. A minimum of one page documentation is required to show period authenticity/inspiration including mention of how your entry fits the theme.

Our theme – The Ship Called Lionsdale Chorus.This is filk-song which was written some time ago by two members of our Shire. The chorus (included below) is a description of our fair Shire and we hope you will find within it inspiration to compete to become our Champion.

And its all, all underway,
We’re loaded up with food and ale
From figurehead to embroidered sail
With Norsemen and Cavalier,
We’ll sail the oceans of An Tir
And hopefully we’ll live to tell the tale
Sailing on a ship called Lionsdale

This Thursday is our monthly council meeting! Oak and I would like to invite everyone to come out to our house for 7 PM. The meeting should last about an hour and I promise to have apple pie and tea or coffee for people to snack on afterwards.

First: Council is this coming Thursday, October 18, at Baroness Sofia’s house 6860 Sumas Prairie Road Chilliwack at 7pm.

Officers, remember to have your reports in by Wednesday.

Second: Speaking of Wednesdays, practices continue at Trethewey House in Abbotsford for this week and next.  However as the weather is rapidly deteriorating we will be putting Wednesday Practices on hiatus from the beginning of November until late February-early March.  Instead we will be directing people to Lions Gate’s Tuesday night practice.

Finally: some of you may have noticed that the Lionsdale Website looks a little different.  It was time to update the site.  Please let the webminister know via the contact page if you have any issues with the new website.

We will now be meeting at Trethewey House in Abbotsford, 2313 Ware St, Abbotsford, BC.

Our practice will be held by the lighted Gazebo until spring.

For Rapier we will continue our focus on individual skill development, supplemented with slow work and sparing.

There is no charge for this practice.
