Newcomers
Greetings, and welcome to the Shire of Lionsdale!
Our shire is a friendly group of approximately 60-90 people, and we are always looking for more to join us. If you are looking for a way to do just that, then let me tell you how!
As a Chatelaine, I am here to help you get started and find out what’s going on in our area. The Shire of Lionsdale consists of the area of the Fraser Valley District, including Abbotsford, Mission, Maple Ridge, Chilliwack, and Hope. If you live outside of this area I can put you in touch with the Chatelaine of your local SCA branch so that you can participate close to home, however, you are more than welcome at any event in any area. If you are new to the Society for Creative Anachronism (the “SCA”), or even just new to this area, please make sure you let us know so that we may help you settle in.
Your Chatelaine can:
- explain about the SCA- the ideals, laws, customs, protocols, and what you can expect to find and do at an event
- direct you to “Gold Key” who provides clothing for those who need something to wear at an event if they do not yet have their own
- answer questions you may have- if we can’t answer them, we will help you find someone who can
- walk you through an event or practice and introduce you to people and explain what activities are happening
- direct you to others in your area of interest
- inform you of local practices and workshops (be sure to check out the Calendar and Events pages for local activities) to get you started on a fun and exciting hobby!
